Day 3

Day 3

As I get better Internet access, I’ll add photos and video.

Today we took a three-hour bus ride south to the city of Petra. Petra was an active bustling city in Jesus’ day and the book of Obadiah is a warning to those who lived there. The city is carved completely out of rock. It is amazing. To get there, you have to go through a canon that is 100-150 feet deep and at times the walls are only 10 feet across. It opens into a large courtyard where the most famous building is…the treasury. It’s not actually a treasury, but they thought it was 150 years ago, it is a tomb. In fact, Petra covers 12 square miles and they have only uncovered 35% of it. Everything that has been found are tombs!

You really have to see this place to appreciate it. I think the best part was Lee Tigner buying a Jordanian Headdress (red and white). Nothing like a white guy tourist in a headdress! It’s awesome! Richie was followed around by a little girl trying to sell him a rock, yes, a rock! I think he bought one!

Tomorrow is a big day; Qumran, Jericho and Mt Nebo (the place Moses died)

Better internet access...hmmm..isn't that an oxymoron in Israel? No toilet stories yet? And I can envision Lee in his headdress...OMGosh....okay, so how is the woman holding up? Putting the Urenelle to use I'm sure....we already miss you guys. Even Richie.

Doug, Jenny, all. I am praying for you. Can not wait to hear what Lee does next. I hope you took your whip and hat to Petra. It helped Indiana Jones. Hey isn't that the name of a band too!! How cool to be able to walk where Jesus walked.

Don't kid yourself Bartel. Richie has always wanted a pet rock ever since hoopdee passed. Maybe he could call it Petra. That'd be nice. I always have thought that Richie rocks (groan).

I didn't know Lee was white?! He has one incredible tan. That headdress could come in handy when Lee tries to fight the battle of Jericho tomorrow. The Cowboys lost on Sunday...that bodes well for Lee's battle tomorrow. How ironic...someone named after General Lee wearing a headress. That is the true nature of peace and goodwill.

It looks like great fun is being had by all. All I can think of while I'm reading your blog is who in the world is making pizza tomorrow night at church if Lee is in the Holy Land!??
